There are many warning signs that can be identified before a child is actually engaging in active substance use, however time is precocious. If you start to notice subtle behaviors that are a little off - that's your GO time! Do not let things go any further. If you can interject before behaviors lead to self destructive decisions do so. Below are typical warning signs for use in adolescents.
1. negative change in friend group
2. drastic change in attitude/personality
3. sneaky behaviors
4. dishonesty
5. change in physical appearance (dilated pupils, blood shot eyes)
6. eating less/more
7. physically present, but not mentally
8. asking for money often
9. belongings are missing (selling for cash) or new belongings (from selling drugs)
10. decline in school performance
11. disinterested in hobbies
12. appears to be "on edge" often
